Sheet pile wall techniques

Economical to construct and versatile in application – these are the main advantages of steel sheet pile walls. Dismantling is also possible without a problem. As a temporary measure, sheet pile walls are used to safeguard excavation pits, for example when there is no space for a slope or sealing is required to protect against pressing water. They are also used as retaining walls or to stabilize inclines.

If the excavation pit has also been sealed off horizontally – for example with underwater concrete slabs, and HDI base or a soft gel blanket – it is possible to work below the water level in an excavation pit surrounded by sheet pile walls (sheet pile box). This is because the individual planks are connected by interlinking locks, resulting in a cohesive, practically impermeable wall.

A sheet pile wall can be constructed in different ways, depending on the composition of the construction soil and the nearby buildings: by driving, pressing or impact driving.

Sheet pile vibrating

The infinitely adjustable, high-frequency vibrators in the MR series from RTG Rammtechnik GmbH are used to vibrate sheet piling profiles, trench sheeting or beams (vibratory pile driving). Vibrated displacement piles are produced by vibrating a steel pipe which is filled with gravel or concrete. For the construction of narrow walls, a steel beam is vibrated with a vibratory vibrator. The beam profile creates a narrow slot that is filled with suspension. A continuous wall is created by overlapping the beam.

Sheet pile pressing

The leader-mounted press system from RTG Rammtechnik GmbH carries out the static installation of sheet pile walls with minimal noise and vibration emissions. A variety of Z profiles, lightweight profiles and U profiles can be pressed.

Sheet pile impact driving

Impact driving can be used universally, but particularly in cohesive soils. RTG offers a range of different hammers for its basic machines. The optimally coordinated structural height of the hydraulic hammer makes it possible to install comparatively long piling material with short mast lengths. The basic machine delivers the required hydraulic power and control technology for the hammers. Regardless of the type of piling material, the required adaptation options can be delivered as well. With the help of measurement data, production-related data can be recorded: the installation depth, the current impact energy, the impact rate of the hammer and the total energy applied per element.
